Meet Lauren, Lauren is truly inspirational to anyone afraid to leave their career to pursue their passion of entrepreneurship. Lauren decided to do just that, 3 years ago she launched LBMG Marketing and has had many successes to share and MANY more to come. When did you open your business?
A. Our virtual doors opened in May 2015, but officially took off in October of 2016.
Why did you open your business?
A. I have always seen myself in a leadership position - even as a kid! I was so amazed by my parents’ growth with their careers that I knew I wanted to make it to the top and lead a team. The funny part is, I never saw the ‘climb’ in my brain. I just saw the top (lol). I launched my business while I was working for an advertising agency - I was passionate about marketing and advertising and saw the trend of brands moving pieces of their marketing and advertising efforts to boutique firms that specialized and knew this was what I wanted to achieve and make an impact on growing small business owners like myself.
What did you learn in your first year of business?
A. One of the biggest things I learned is that confidence is key in running a business. You need to speak with conviction. No one is the expert from the get-go. If you speak with conviction, not only will people respect you, but they’ll have faith in you. This is what got me my first handful of clients whom I was able to prove successful all whilst learning and growing as a small marketing studio.
Q. What did you learn about yourself personally?
I learned that I’m a badass!! I built something out of what little I had to get off the ground and I made it a thing - I made it SUCCESSFUL.
What have you improved upon as a business owner?
A. I have learned how to be a better person - a better friend, girlfriend, daughter, sister… I always talk about ‘challenges.’ In business, you are faced with them daily. Owning a business has taught me patience, kindness, and respect. Not your average 25 year old right? Lol.
Are you doing what you love?
A. 3,000% times infinity. While I may get frustrated, upset, and sometimes even doubt myself - I always come back to one central thought that at the end of the day I am doing what I love.
What do you love about your career as a business owner?
A. I love seeing the success of my clients and making them happy. I love crossing things off my to-do list. I love holding myself accountable. I love leading a team of amazing individuals with a burning passion for digital marketing and creative branding. I love that I have something that can make an impact in the community no matter how big or small.
Q. Who would you like to thank for your success?
All of my clients who have believed in me and seen LBMG Marketing’s vision and future. LBMG Marketing would not be where it is today without the amazing clients who have put their trust in us. Additionally, my Business Coach (haha hi Candice!) and other key essential players such as my lawyer, accountant, and every other person out there who believed in this business.
What would you say to someone thinking about starting their own business?
A. Many things. I ought to write a book on this, dangit!
Ask yourself first and foremost WHY you’re going into business for yourself. If it’s to ‘make money and retire fast,’ you may find yourself in quite a few pickles as you navigate this entrepreneurial world. Mindset is everything and you need to have a stronger reason than that.
Treat every challenge as a lesson. Without challenges, YOU WILL NOT GROW. You will not LEARN. Accept challenges with open arms.
Do NOT be afraid to take risks. I would not have had this much success without taking the crucial risks I’ve taken to get LBMG Marketing where it stands today.
Don’t be lazy. Learn all of the ins and outs early on - accounting, marketing, billing, etc. While you don’t need to be an expert and can 100% hire people for these things, it’s so important to have a basic understanding.
But then - hire help. Whether a business coach/management consultant, marketing firm, it’s OK to seek help. This shows you’re willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
Celebrate the small stuff. I often get so caught up in ‘what’s next’ that I’ll forget to stop and say ‘HECK YES. YOU JUST WON THAT CLIENT!’ or ‘OMG. YOU JUST TRIPLED LAST YEAR’S REVENUE. GO CELEBRATE!!!!!’ Have a beer, take a shot, call your mom, have a party, open that bottle of wine you’ve been saving.. Celebrate your wins.
What is your Company Mission?
A. To provide creative marketing solutions for brands who are eager to grow and pave their way and be thought-leaders in their industries.
What is the vision you want to bring to life for your company?
A. First and foremost, I see LBMG Marketing continuing to make an impact in the Fort Lauderdale and South Florida community both charitably and through our marketing services. It is our sole mission to grow companies and we get so much fulfillment from the success of our clients. I see LBMG Marketing growing into an office space in a central location. All of our team members currently work remote and we hope to still offer that as we strongly believe in a work-life balance (not common in this industry)! Our future office space will be one with no set hours, come and go as you please, and use this space as a resource to learn and grow with the company.
